I have owned wireless headphones going all the way back to the first infrared sets on the market. My previous set was an Audio Unlimited 900Mhz set also purchased from Amazon. When they died after a year I looked forward to these 2.4 Ghz headphones from Acoustic Research, model AWD 211. They've been a mixed blessing.

Sound quality is excellent, much better than the old 900Mhz set. The new set has 2 speakers per earphone.

Range is not as good as the previous 900 Mhz set, but within the same room or directly adjacent room, the improved sound quality makes up for it. Outside the house, reception is spotty. Of course, I didn't buy these headphones to only hear the TV in the front yard. About 50 feet is the limit, depending on obstructions.

Construction is much improved over my previous 900 Mhz set, which was retired because they physically broke. The head frame was 100% plastic and kept cracking. After a year, they were more repair tape than headphone. The...Read more

The battery issue the other commenter listed caused me to check it out and I do not see replacement AA 800 capacity 1.2v nimh batteries available on amazon.com... However, I have thoroughly read the manual and the way I understand what it says, you can use other replacement 1.2v AA batteries, you just can't recharge them with the cradle apparatus. You can take the batteries out and recharge them in a portable recharger and then put them back in the headphones. They should work perfectly.

I just got the headphones in the mail and haven't had the chance to use them yet, (they have to charge for 14 hours) but one thing I don't like is that the phones are large, and extremely oval rather than round. The picture I saw of them minimized their cup length at a single angle with no other views. I thought I was getting something smaller and rounder than what actually came. There is no point of the cup space going down way past my ear hole, 4 inches long. It just has to send...Read more

It's difficult to believe any company would manufacture such a product.

First, I love the product, great sound, great fit, easy to use.
Second, I can't use it and neither can most people.

The unit operates at 2.4Ghz which is fine. I have lots of products that operate in that frequency and get along. However, this unit requires the entire frequency (no sharing, no channels) so anyone with any device that uses WIFI (Wireless Internet) will be in trouble. In my case, the headphones work great, but while the base unit is plugged in, any wireless internet connection within range will be blocked. I've tried changing channels on my wireless router, but nothing helps. I confirmed with AR that this unit should not be used anywhere that wireless internet is being used.

So why do they continue to manufacture it when computers, video games, and smartphones are all going to be disabled by this unit?
