Summary: Great value for the money 2008-11-14
Comment: I've had these headphones for about 8 years now and they are still going! amazing for sub-$30 headphone. I mostly use them at work for listening to music and drowning coworkers noises. They are light, quite comfortable if you don't have overly large ears.
The sound is not like Grado or AKG, or even Sennheuser, but for the money (and at the time) it is great! The bass is almost non-existant, and if you turn it up on an equalizer - it will distort, so keep it moderate; it still sounds OK. The mute button is almost completely useless, but it doesn't hurt. Very long cord, so can go under your table and around your workstation.
I've used these cans as audio monitors as well, but gave up quickly as the sound is too innacuarate. In-ear Shure does a much better job, but then again I HATE those in-ear phones. There is a bud alternative from a new entrant to the hi-fi market from china - Yuin, whose PK1 and PK2 models seem to be the best thing since sliced bread.
Anyway, these cans are great for the money, and unlike many people here, I NEVER had a single reliability problem with them, even after 8 years.

Summary: Great Sounding and Comfortable 2008-04-01
Comment: My set of the HP-X222 has been working perfectly since I bought them in the late '90s. I don't remember the date but I'm certain I've been using them on nearly a daily basis for about 10 years. The frequency response can't be beat for this price as you can hear both bass and treble that others can't handle. In ten years the only thing that has gone wrong is the ear cushion covering has dry-rotted. My best headphones ever. Too bad that I can't buy another set to replace them.

Summary: Bass? 2005-12-29
Comment: These headphones have very little bass response. If I crank up the bass on the equalizer they crackle. Other than that they're solid.

Summary: great buy 2005-12-24
Comment: I've had these for several years (4? 6? not sure). I wear them at work, most of the day, almost every weekday. They're very comfortable--it never bothers me to wear them all day. They completely contain the sound they produce, so I can jack up the volume to a point where it drowns my coworkers out and nobody around me is disturbed. They block out some ambient noise even when nothing is playing, so I actually don't have to turn my music up too loud to block things out. The sound quality is pretty good, very good when you consider the price.
They are starting to show a little wear now, on the pads around the ears. If they were available on Amazon (they're not as of this writing), I'd buy another pair in a heartbeat. I'd definitely recommend them to anybody.

Summary: Great headphones.... a little TOO great. 2004-02-18
Comment: This refers to the HP-X223 version of the headphones.I needed headphones for my PC because I live in a dorm and dont want to bother my roommate with my Digital Audio projects and such. I bought these because of thier impressive 5-25,000 hz frequency response. These headphones are great. They provide a "true to source" reproduction of the sound. That means that all the flaws of MP3s can be heard through these headphones. It also means that these headphones wont boost bass or cut treble, you will have to do that yourself with your source EQ. Not a problem with me. What did bother me was the amount of interference I heard from the headphones. My desktop computer is all crammed on my small desk. These headphones are SO GOOD at a wide range of frequencies that it was picking up frequencies within the computer and monitor. I could hear my mouse cursor move across the screen, for example. It was a light fuzzy noise, not a big deal when listening to loud music, but when the audio is off or I was working with editing audio, it became annoying. I plugged these headphones to the rear audio jack of my sound card, and the interference was less, but that is where i plug in my speakers and I didnt want to have to change the plugs out every time I wanted to switch between speakers and headphones. So the moral of the story is, these headphones are GREAT if you have a high end, high quality sound coming into them from a high quality source with minimal interference. Comfort wise, I have a huge head and these headphones were comfortable, they are huge. I returned them and will probably get a model with less frequency response and an in-line volume control, which is helpful for computers you dont have to keep changing your system volume every time you want the headphone volume to change.
