I have always been more partial to the type headphones that don't have the silicone insert that sticks in my ear canal. I do have several different pairs of "noise isolating" earphones that do insert into my ear canals and wear them when noise isolation is needed. I could not call any of them comfortable. I would have to say that all I can get from in ear canal inserts is varying levels of discomfort. I have tried changing the inserts on some of mine to different types and sizes including the foam ones and none are really comfortable. Fortunately for me, most of my listening with earphones is done at the office or at home and it's quite enough at either place to get by without noise isolating earphones. At the office I still need to be able to hear my phone ringing so noise isolating earphones are not even an option.
