Summary: Can you handle the bass? 2008-12-10
Comment: These are my second pair of studio headphones. My retired pair (because i bought these) were the Sony MDR-V6's and i gotta tell you that these Audio technica Pro700's pretty much blow them away. I've always used Audio Technica's Mic's and Wireless systems but this is my first set of headphones from them and i'm never going back.
Ya their alittle tight, only at first they loosen with use. Nice folding design for easy storage (included carry pouch). Long cord, half straight and half coiled, the best of both i guess.
Now we get to sound. I am speechless but you kinda have to talk on a review. so the first thing you will notice is the smooth bass. the bass tends to vibrate the ear pads on your head( only when loud ). The bass never gets fuzzy or distorted no matter how loud you put them ( and they go really loud, i dont recomend listening at really high volumes it could make your ears bleed). The Mid's and High's are crystal clear also, all your music has high fedelity at any volume.
I would definatly recomend these headphones to anyone who is a musician, a music lover or anyone who has an ipod. (you don't know how much power your ipod has untill you buy a serious pair of headphones). They would make great gifts but are alittle pricey but well worth the money.
Hope this helps you make your decision. Happy Listening

Summary: Excellent Studio Headphones 2008-10-15
Comment: I've had these cans for about a year now and am very pleased with the quality. For the people who reviewed and said they are poorly constructed and will break easily, I believe they were just unlucky and received a poor unit to begin with. I am a college student and carry these in my backpack everyday, and believe it or not, they are still in mint condition. I honestly wear these cans for probably 4-6 hours a day and love them. So judging from the fact that they are always smashed into my backpack, get A LOT of use every day, and haven't broke yet, I'm going out on a limb and gonna say that they are very very durable.
The Good:
Built like a tank.
Bass is incredible.
Very stylish.
Can handle anything you throw at them.
The Bad:
Highs are a little 'honky'.
Takes a while for them to become comfortable.
Ear cups are a little small for my ears.
If you're not careful with the volume, they can blow your eardrums.
Coiled cord annoyed me, so I re-cabled them with shorter Canare Starquad
Overall: I love them!

Summary: Great only if you like DJ style cans. Not great for big heads. 2008-09-18
Comment: While these headphones are cool looking, the DJ style swivel earcups are too flippity-floppy for my personal liking. The puffy headband is very soft, but the plastic extenders and swivel joints are just asking to get cracked and broken. Also, these should be avoided if you have a large head. I wear a 7 3/4 cap and the strong headband really squeezed my noggin. I couldn't wear them for any longer than 15 minutes.

Summary: I regret not discovering these sooner. 2008-06-27
Comment: A friend at work introduced me to these headphones. That's what friends are for. A week after receiving them I ordered a second pair; one pair for work and one for home. I got tired of trucking the first pair to work and back home.
I listened to music I must have listened to a thousand times before and discovered music I'd never heard. My music collection had acquired a new lease on life. Do NOT operate heavy machinery or care for small children while using these headphones! (Don't even think about driving.)
A few months later I bought my third pair. This pair was simply for loaning to friends so they could share in the experience. (I wasn't about to part with my work/home duo.)
One of the most rewarding purchases I've ever made.

Summary: Planned Obsolescence in Action! But Excellant Sound! 2008-05-19
Comment: It's hard to find concrete examples of planned obsolescence but the Audio Technica ATH-PRO700 SV "Professional" Monitor Headphones are just that. One would expect headphones which cost upwards of $250 that claim to be professional quality to last a good deal of time. I can search eBay and find studio headphones from the 70's that are still functioning great. However the ATH-PRO700's were not designed to last. The engineers at Audio Technica were clearly pressured by the Executives at the top to encourage the consumers of this process to again buy a new pair sooner than later if they want a functioning product. They did a good job at that.
When I purchased these headphone roughly a year ago I ignored the (now missing from Amazon) reviews that these headphones would break as soon as you purchased them. I did this because the design makes these headphones "looks so durable and well prepared for rugged environment[s]." This is a deception. Within a month the poorly made plastic parts on the right side that adjust the speakers to the head broke. I then used a giant paper clip and a twist tie to keep it together. This lasted for a year until the left side broke. Now I have both parts of these headphones supported by the most ugly reenforcement possible. Here is the thing....
I work as a web designer and these headphones have never left my office. NOT ONCE! They are not being used in an environment where drunk frat boys are lighting bottle rockets and killing hookers. It's in a boring officer where the most sever stress placed on them is when I have to quickly take them off because someone needs me to fix a problem. Ooh! Any professional would laugh at these models of expensive consumer trash.
But one the plus side they do sound amazing. It's why I have no problems wearing what is the equivalent to over bearing unsightly headphone orthodontics. When the rubber head part breaks (which it feels like it's about to) then I will have to strip everything out of the headphone and purchase a shell from a 70's pair and replace the parts. Oh yes. That is the extent to which I will not give into Planned Obsolescence.
Don't buy this product unless you like either recycling electronics or enjoy spending an unnecessary amount of money on what is more or less a toy.
