Summary: Don't waste your money 2010-07-29
Comment: I would have given this product a flat out "0" if I could. 5 people in my office received the Solo beats by Dr. Dre in January 2010. 6 months later (July 2010) and four of the five headphones have cracked beyond repair (beyond use as well), all in the EXACT same place. I can't believe that Dr. Dre would put his name behind such a faulty product. Look elsewhere if you want headphones that will last.

Summary: Fun headphones, but not for audiophiles. 2010-07-12
Comment: I've owned these headphones for about 6 months now and I am still on the fence. There is a lot of truth in all of the other reviews on this board, but I just wanted to have my two cents and sum it up in my own way.
These headphones are not studio headphones, and they are not really meant to watch movies either. Furthermore, they are not particularly good headphones to use on a plane(nor in any enclosed space with other people) as they allow a lot of sound to clearly leak out. In other words people can hear every word of Domestic Violence off of Bobby Digital when you are on the bus. Fair warning.

These headphones are best worn while rocking out in your house. The reason why Lady Gaga is involved with this brand is possibly just because her music sounds so epic on these headphones. The bass is the loudest I have ever heard on a pair of headphones as well. I had to set the volume limit on my iPhone.

That said, these headphones have a crucial flaw which you will discover if they ever come off while you are rocking out. They are fragile and I'm not using that term lightly. Thankfully they stay on well but having just broken my first pair by dropping them from chest height onto carpet I wouldn't want to drop them on concrete from the same height. If you apply too much pressure from the bottom the headband will just snap at the metal joint. The warranty is nice though, they didn't ask any questions. Just told me to ship them back with a copy of the receipt and they would send me a brand new pair. Makes me wonder what kind of actual cost Monster incurs for one of these units. Must be pretty low, but it's in the mail as we speak.

They really do justice to top 40 hits. I've listened to a lot of things I have no interest in just because these headphones made them sound interesting. A lot of modern music is mixed down to sound good on radio and on computer speakers. These headphones are the cure to that mixing because they do not accurately reproduce sound at all. They are like the car stereo of an overzealous 16 year old and I love them for that.

To conclude:
DON'T buy these headphones if you need accurate reproduction of sound cause it is not in these. Also, don't buy them to work out or even to wear out of the house as they bleed sound badly, are not very sturdy and will stain pretty quickly if you go with the white ones.

DO buy these headphones if it is your birthday or you just got three weeks of pay at your new job. If $200 means nothing to you, go to the Colorware website and get some custom Studio Beats and then you will get the same experience. These headphones are the definition of splurging, especially when you consider that more balanced headphones can be purchased for less than a $100.

Still only 3 out of 5, their main drawback is buyer's remorse and the inflexible headband.

Summary: Had high hopes 2010-06-24
Comment: I've owned the Beats Solo HD in Black now for about a week. I must say that I'm a bit dissaopinted.

At home I have some very nice speakers, but at work I normally just use a pair of $20 sony headphones. Recently I decided I'd like to get something nicer for work. These beats Solo HD are comfortable and block out tons of outside noise. They fit so tight to my ear that they are quite suprising at first!

The dissapointing part is that the sound quality is pretty poor. Bass and midbass is amazing but the treble is severly lacking. The sony's I threw out sounded much crisper and clearer. I guess I don't see why I paid $200+ to replace a $20 set. I traded clear treble for powerful bass.

Summary: Great headphones! 2010-06-01
Comment: Great headphones when it comes to sound quality, the base is amazing. But they do start hurting after about an hour though. But other than that the headphones are great.

Summary: Don't waste your money just coz they're fashionable. 2010-05-20
Comment: When I first bought Dre's Beats Solo's, I'll say I was Naive to what good headphones were. I saw them and I thought they were the coolest things on earth and said I have to get them. I must say though, they did get me into being a audiophile, but even more so afterwards which I'll explain later. All I'm saying about these headphones is that it's just a cool factor, or a fashion product. The sound isn't too bad, but for what you can hear from these headphones you can hear in others a lot cheaper and a lot better. You're paying for a name, a damn named thats being endorsed into every pop-culture music video, like Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, and a bunch of other music video clowns that just wear it around their necks as if it were a piece of jewelry. Ok, now that I got my personal observations out of the way, which is still factual, I'll get to the real stinkin' deal about these Beats Solo's and here you go; THEY'RE CHEAP PLASTIC!!! Cheap plastic I say, they broke in a few months at the head band. WTF? they aren't using metal? If you go to any store right now, you'll find the solo's there too are broken at the headband, if you go the the official Dre Beats headphones Facebook page, everyday someone's submitting pictures of their broken Solo headphones that broke at the head band area. What a disappointment. Do yourself a favor and save your money and get a much better pair of can's like Grado or Sennheisser, unless you plan on trying to look cool coz you have a piece of Dr. Dre Beats jewelry around your neck, you'll only look cool for a few months until they eventually break and trust me, sooner or later that little cheap piece of plastic will break and then you'll just be a uncool broken headphone toten idiot like the rest of us who wasted our money thinking we were buying a promising product. But instead our product, dreams and wallet were broken just like our broken headphones.
But because they broke, I knew they're had to be better headphones out there and I said I'm not going for a name, cool factor or looks, and that's exactly what Grado's are. They're one of the best headphones next to Sennheisser. Do yourself a favor and trust me, if you're going to shell out $200 to $300 dollars, get a real pair of professional quality headphones, if not, then give me your money. I seriously want to tell the world about these crap headphones so that Monster and Dr. Dre learns their lessons and either produce better quality headphones with metal in the headband, give a longer warranty or just never make headphones again so as to stop lying to the world and taking them for there money.
