Beyer Dynamic DT 770 Premium 32 OHM Headphones

I was shopping for a replacement to some HD580s that were annoying my cube mates since they were open back type design.

The object of my search was to find something sonicaly similar I could wear for extended time at the computer.

These guys were recommended on some web sites I reviewed and in the 200 to 300 $ range I was wanting to invest.

When they came they were nicely packaged, and clearly very nicely made. I was very happy with the craftsmanship.

Upon listening to them with my Zune I found I had to crank the volume all the way up to get a "normal" volume.

Their description suggests these headphones are lower impedance specially for use with portable devices.. so I was a bit

mystified by that. Next I plugged them into my HiFi. This opened up a window in to what these phones are, extremely accurate,

this is my first pair of premium over ear headphones, and i think for $191 that i got them for they have a very good value for their price. They are very durable, the side pieces are made out of metal, the headband is made out of sturdy flexible metal, and have a very thick cushioning pad. the ear cups have a plastic backing i think, and the material on the ear cuffs is very comfortable.

If you have a big head like me then it will take like 1-2 days of wear to make them not crush my head. Believe me, I've used other headphones that put so much pressure on my head that i get headaches, but these wont do that if you wear them for 1-2 days.

*I am not an audio sound expert so i will not be reviewing sound quality, but overall the sound is great, there is bass but its not that much*

A few reviews mention these headphones being a little tight for those of large skulls, and being of the pumpkin headed variety I agreed for the first 5-7 hours or so, but after a solid 12 or so hours of listening on and off the band has really loosened, not in a cheap "this won't last way", but in a "Fine pair of well made Italian leather shoes" way. You gotta wear 'em in a little. Just like the sound will get better and better as the headphones are worn in so will the comfort. 'Tis the nature of quality.

As for the sound, I've been listening to blues jam sessions and the sound is crisp, clean, I can hear every note. The bass is strong but comes in smooth and clean, not like Dr.Dre's which sound like a lowrider on your face. In some of the songs, i can hear the audience putting down their drinks during the song.
