I recently replaced my pair of HD280 Pros with a pair of the DT770s (250ohm'), a difference that was like DVD & Bluray. I was loving them until the right ear mysteriously went out. Now I have these. They feel almost identical in build to the DT770s with the exception of the ear pads not being as thick, pressing the speaker fabric against my ears. While at first I felt I made an error in the T70s, they have proved to be a slightly superior set of cans.
I work in a noisy office environment and these manage, when in use, to drown out all sound around me. The clarity is astounding though it lacks a certain level of warmth. They are very analytical, really picks apart the music. Classical, acoustic guitars, vocals and jazz all sound amazing however all the Rock, R&B and especially Electronica are not as inspiring. I recently tried my cousins pair of Beats by Dre and while not as clear, could easily be described as having a more fun sound for those genre's

First of all, if you are strongly impressed by DT770, DT880 and DT990, then take these cans. I am strongly impressed by Dt990 Pro and still regard this set is the best cans for metal and rock music with these T70. The timbre of DT990 pro is smooth, gentle and refined, but the tone of these cans is seems like that of Denon. I think these cans and T1 are the best headphones among all and even better than Denon D7000. If there is another one which is better than even D7000 is Lcd-2/3. But, the character of the Lcd-2/3 is close to Denon, Hifiman HE500 and the top class of Grado(my Grado PS 500 has so deep and dynamic bass and great high peak but cannot reach the high peak of Beyerdynamic), while T70 keeps the great high peak of Beyerdynamic headphones. In spite of my being strongly impressed by DT990 Pro, the reason why I used to hesitate to get the great DT880 is because of its having low bass. On the other hand, he bass level of these cans is between Dt880 and Dt990, which is greatest...Read more

I think the Beyerdynamic T70's are excellent!
Often, audiophiles will write lengthy reviews of a set of cans using words whose definition probably means different things to different people. "Laid back", "forward", etc. These are adjectives, but in my view they're uselessly qualitative, and at any rate, if "laid back" is good for the reviewer, it might be a bad thing for the next person considering a purchase. Headphones are either "bad", "good enough", or "excellent", and in each case, each person will reach a conclusion about which it is rather quickly.
So, from my perspective: when I saw the earphones in person for the first time, I could tell right away the design was well thought out and made to last. When I picked them up for the first time, I was immediately satisfied with the balance between robust design and comfortable weight. And, most importantly, within hearing five seconds of audio of a track I have perfectly memorized, I instantly said "Yes...Read more
