Denon DNHP1000 Super DJ Headphone

I bought these after spending the better part of a day comparing (online only unfortunately) many different brands and models. My degree is actually in sound recording and other media so I'm very picky about anything audio, and I had a good idea of what I was looking for.

Overall, I've been very happy with them. They do a good job drowning out extraneous background noise for studying (or trying to ignore people) as one would hope. At medium volumes, my girlfriend cannot hear what I'm listening to from 4 feet away. They also turn a noisy plane into a pleasurable experience.

Music quality is excellent for listening back. Accurate, pleasant at low and high volumes, and comfortable after you break them in for a few hours. These are a great set of headphones but a little finicky. On my set, the 3.5mm plug isn't wired particularly well so I end up having to wiggle the very end of the plug to get stereo. After that, they sound great. I'll probably have to have the end reterminated. Other than that, they are a great set of cans. Very comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. Being a college student, I find myself reaching for them a lot either when I need to drown out the background noise of the dorm or when my roommate needs to study. I can wear them for a couple hours and be fine. Even with no equalization (which is my preference) these are very accurate. Treat these headphones well and they will pleasure your ears.

I bought these headphones about three years ago. At the time they were going for $150 and were the most expensive headphones I had purchased to date. I bought them to replace another pair of denon headphones I had the became I victim of my wifes vacuuming. They were $100 headphones. I cannot remember the model number at the moment, but they were my favorites phones and had the sound quality that I liked as well as a smaller earcup that just fit over my ears. They were nice and I had them for almost 10 years. So after waiting for my wife to replace the, as she promised time and time again I went out and started to research what new phones denon was offering. I figured in 10 years the tech had to improve to the point where I could get a phone with the same quality, but a lower price since the more expensive ones would have superior sound.
