Product Review

Head-Direct RE0 In-ear Headphones, with the nick name "Kylin", are one of the best In-ear headphones in the world. * In-ear Design, 15-20 dB isolation * The best dynamic drivers * Smooth and transparent middle range. **Current RE0 cable was made by PPE material, which is much more reliable than the old version fabric cable. The new L-shape miniplug is much better than previous plug, too.

Much has been said on the sound quality of these phones. Yes, they sound phenomenal. They are extremely precise and extremely clear. You can't really fault them... unless sterile is not your preferred sound. They are analytical to a "fault"- while the bass can go way down, it may not be loud or boomy enough for some listeners. It's not that anything is missing, it's just that a lot of other IEMs deliver louder bass, though not necessarily with the clarity or range. Truth is, the range on these is superb for this price range. You just may not like the sound if you are too worried about booming bass (or too used to how emphasized it is in other, lower quality IEMs). I really don't mind, and totally would recommend them based on sound quality so long as you are looking for that particular signature (or lack thereof).

Having said that, I did run into a problem with with these phones: after six months, the left side stopped working. I'm not sure how prevalent this is,...Read more

Introduction

I've already written a great deal on the RE0s but I don't consider any of it a formal review in the traditional sense. If you've read my previous writing about the RE0s, you should know that I am positively enamored by them. In the few weeks since I received them, they have quickly become my preferred listening devices when I sit down with my laptop or iPod and listen to music. After putting them through their paces for 200+ hours and listening to the sound signature evolve and mature in that time, I finally feel that I'm ready to give the RE0s the review they deserve. So, without further ado, read on for my full review of the HiFiMan RE0 in ear monitors.

Almost anyone researching IEM's knows about the RE0 and with good reason: for the price, the sound quality is hard to beat and rivals IEM's more than double its price. Everything has been said here already but I'll reiterate what I find best about these little guys: The clarity, the high frequency reproduction, the neutral, balanced sound signature and the tough steel housings. I use these in combination with a Cowon S9 and FLAC files. On "Normal" setting on my S9, the RE0 sounded barely better than $20 IEM's, earbuds or headphones - but after a bit of EQ and BBE adjustments, I was able to bring out the best of the RE0 and I can't imagine listening to portable music any other way now. I found the large biflanged clear tip to be the best at isolation, bass response and refusing to slip while walking, for my ears at least. With correct EQ settings and the right tips for your ears, these IEMs really do have fantastic bass - never overpowering, always clean, accurate and warm. I couldn't...Read more
