I have tried many different brands of in-ear headphones for both working out (I'm a weight lifting fanatic and former college runner) and simple high-level sound quality for at home listening. For reference, I have owned over-ear headphones including Bose (On Ear), Sennheiser HD650, B&Ws, various Koss, Audio-Technica ATH-M50s, Sonys, and various Grados. I have purchased and listened to the acclaimed in-ear Klipsch S4 ($75.00), Bowers & Wilkins C5 ($200.00), JVC HA-FX67B, JVC Xtreme Xplosives, and of course, the JVC HAFXC51B.

First and foremost, it is important to note that sound preference is VERY subjective. I personally tend to like deep, rich, powerful bass, yet with a clean balance of very crisp, clear and distinct highs. Secondly, the FIT and comfort of an in-ear headphones is just as important if not the MOST important factor to achieve the maximum sound potential offered from any in-ear headphone.

BREAK-IN TIME? YES. The sound quality simply improves...Read more

If you check my previous reviews you'll see several JVC earphone reviews. My reviews of the HAFX66 and 67 are at the top of each product's review lists.

I love them for the comfort of their ear cushion design, and their outstanding price/performance ratio. With outstanding isolation and street prices about $14, the ear cushions are perhaps the greatest exercise/yardwork headphones ever. But for listening in a sweat-free, less punishing environment I always choose something like my Etymotics ER4s or, at home, my Senn HD600s. The ER4 is a great travel phone. High fidelity meets high portability. But even with the mushroom tips now available from Ety, it's not as comfortable as JVC's ear cushion design because you really have to stick it in your ear. The hours of comfort you get from JVC ear cushion phones can't be matched by any of the high SQ cans I own. So if I'm going to be listening for long periods I'm tempted to make the SQ compromise and take along the JVC ear cushions...Read more

The JVC HA-FXC51 is a great sounding earbud. I would recommend this product. It has a clean, well balance tone and finally an earbud that has well define bass. Good job JVC!
