Product Description
Why did they stop making those gigantic chrome plated Art Deco microphones all the announcers used in the days of black and white movies? They sure were cool but on consideration maybe the Koss M18 Electret Microphone is more practical for use with today's PC and Macintosh computers. The unique microphone design of M18 provides flexible usage for hand-held or hands-free communication. The M18 is an electret microphone employing a solid dielectric with persistent dielectric polarization. Omnidirectional microphone provides maximum sensitivity and has optimized pick up pattern. It is ideal for voice activated and voice recognition software and computer games. If your sound card does not have a built-in bias supply the M18 can be used with an external power source.

Summary: Quick test 2006-01-24
Comment: After being very upset w/ my Plantronics .Audio Microphone, I bought a couple to test out. Of them were the Logitech USB, Olympus ME-12, and this Koss M-18 (all available as of this date on Amazon). The prices are similar, with Logitech USB being the highest at $19.99 & Olympus at a low $10.99.
Unfortunately, the Koss had the poorest noise canceling out of the three. Also, its adjustable neck was a lot less firm than I was hoping; any bump to the desk causes the mic head to jiggly & tremble for a good full two seconds.
Overall, this isn't a bad mic & is perfect for casual use. Also the fact that it ISN'T a USB device may be a plus for most people, as setting up USB devices w/ a poorly designed audio application might be a problem.

Summary: A little tinny but good overall 2003-07-04
Comment: This microphone produces a high treble output (not surprising based on its size) The flexible portion of the arm is a nice feature but over time it gets a little limp.
