Favors mid-range and high-end clarity over powerful bass,

I use earbuds a lot, and tend to buy some of them to test drive. My preferred buds for the past few years have been Koss "The Plug". So I wondered: would these be a new or improved version from Koss?
THE TEST
Listened to my usual mix of music (pop, rock, electronic, world, podcast) for a couple of hours, then switched back to the standard. I figured that I needed a couple of hours to get used to them, and then the differences would be obvious when I switched.
SUBJECTIVE IMPRESSIONS
Before the comparison, I noted that the sound was lighter, with perhaps better articulation of the mid-range and high end. The bass is there, but not at all boomy, or even really that strong. I found myself wanting a touch more balance on the low-end. However, for voice use (podcasts, book on tape) they were better. I don't need a strong bass, which tends to tire my ears, when listening to voice.

I bought 3 of this because my 16 y.o. son is Earbud consuming so I hope I'll have some months of peace on this side now.
The look is kool (as he said) and for a total of $24 for the 3 I cannot ask for more, the sound is ok for the price.
