Product Description
For nearly 25 years, the Kos Portapro has been a folding headset designed for professional listening performance with portable audio devices. With new MP3 player and iPod use, the Port-a-Pro is even more popular for those seeking a comfortable alternative to earphones. Elevate your listening with Portapro. First introduced in 1984, this high quality portable stereophone set performance and comfort standards for personal listening worldwide. Over the years, much to the delight of devout Porta Pro enthusiasts, we've preserved the original design and performance that made the Porta Pro a portable music icon. Today the Porta Pro remains the headphone of choice for the discriminating listener. Designed for those with refined musical acuity, the Porta Pro continues to be the most user admired portable headphone for discriminating listeners who prefer a light headrest over earplugs. The Porta Pro features dynamic elements that deliver exceptionally rich, deep bass and a remarkably wide frequency response from 15-25,000 Hz to capture every nuance in your favorite movie or musical performance. Constructed from mylar, the elements are extremely rigid, minimizing mechanical distortion and ensuring exceedingly accurate sound reproduction. Neodymium iron boron rare earth magnet structures enable the Porta Pro to deliver greater volume so you can hear every note, even when competing against the sounds of a commuter train with a low-voltage MP3 or disc player. Oxygen free copper voice coils improve signal transmission and conduction for cleaner, clearer sound. Foam earcushions provide an open, hear-through sound that lets you keep in touch with your surroundings perfect to wear while running, at work, or while traveling. 4 Feet Long wire with miniplug

Summary: Buy these headphones 2010-07-25
Okay, I finally pulled trigger two weeks ago. My initial impressions are (only burned in for about 10 hours).
- Bass is a little too much (that's expected and is a selling point for Portapros). But with EQing, I can make it a bit better to my taste.
- Sound is not too clear overall (comparing with Grados of course), but this may improve over time with more burned in (based on my prior experiences).
My sources are very decent MP3 players and laptop with external sound card. No external amps were used in any way.
In the end, Portapro lives within my expectations. I like them for their compact shape, portability (which Grado lacks), comfort (slightly worse than Grados). I think these are not as good as Grado Labs SR60 and SR80, if a straight comparison has to be made. Value wise, I would go to SR60 if you can buy used. If you only buy new electronics, then these are really good values.
