I was badly in need of a pair of over-ear-style headphones that would reduce ambient sound, as I live in an apartment building and my upstairs neighbors are constantly stomping around and making all kinds of noise. However, I also needed them to be reasonably priced, and I wanted them to be reasonably cute. These fit the bill on all counts! The only time I've been able to hear my neighbors while I was wearing them is when they were assembling a piece of furniture, which involved pretty much constant hammering. (This was the same day I got the headphones... it was like they knew I'd be able to tune them out and made extra noise especially for me!) It was quite loud, so definitely don't consider it a flaw in these headphones that they weren't able to block that out.
I have to admit that I don't know much about the technical aspects of speakers or headphones, but I find the sound on these to be very satisfying. The bass comes through solidly, without overwhelming everything...Read more

Clear, crisp sound. Strong bass but overall very good from highs to lows. Strings, brass and wind instruments really stand out in classical music. I can clearly hear the fine details. Was testing them listening to AC/DC and I could feel my eyeballs vibrating.
Decent sound isolation; good construction*; Comfortable, soft and thick earpads and at top of band.
The price is nice.
*Update: These were great until a break in the wire where it enters the ear cup made them useless. I got about 6 months out of them. 1 star removed due to durability.

My sons JVC flats went kaput and he was in need of another pair of headphones so first place we looked was craigslist and found a pair of seinhiesers but he wasnt satisfied with the bass output so then we went to walmart to get the JVC flats again and to our surprise they stopped selling them so we went to k-mart and picked up a pair of maxell headphones and what a disappointment they were. Finnaly we stopped at target and purchased a pair of these Philips and WOW!!! Clear crisp and loud in your face sound. They are so powerfull they shake your earlobes. Just incredible. You can't go wrong by purchasing these.
