Product Review
Product Description

So, you buy a really good radio or CD player, go to plug in your headphones, and there isn't a headphone jack! You find a line level jack, plug in your headphones, and they sound terrible. Sound familiar? Most good quality gear lacks an earphone output, or if there is one, it is woefully poor quality. We developed this kit to help us listen to our mixers, reverbs, voice recorders and other audio goodies. We took a pair of LM-386 250 mW audio amplifiers, added volume controls, power supply and a handy, switchable, high-cut filter. A common 1/4 stereo earphone jack is used for the output - assuring compatibility with all stereo headphones - and RCA phono jacks accept standard line level input signals. There's plenty of volume and of course, the Fi is quite Hi. The SHA1WT is for those that just don't want to build a kit! It is factory assembled & tested, and all set to go. Comes with the power supply and is ready to use.. Runs on 9 to 15 VDC. Includes our AC125 power supply. Includes an attractive matching case measuring 5 W x 1 1/2 H x 5 1/4 D. (Did you know the leading manufacturer of high-end table radios recommends the SHA1 to all their customers?!)

Summary: Poor quality for the price 2008-07-24
Comment: Bought this so I could listen to music & movies without disturbing others. But like other reviewers reported, there is a distinct background hiss, loud enough to be distracting.

Summary: Decent amplification marred by hissing and scratching. 2007-12-04
Comment: I tried this amp primarily with a pair of Sennheiser 555 headphones. The amp had enough power to drive the headphones and it greatly improved the sound, especially with lower frequencies. Unfortunately, the entire time that the amp was on, it would emit an annoying and persistent hiss. Additionally, I would consistently hear a scratching sound every three seconds which was even more irritating than the hiss (I tested multiple audio sources to find out of this occurred in each and it did occur in every source). Lastly, when you turn the unit on or plug your headphones in, you'll hear a very loud pop through the headphones. Though most headphone amps do this, the pop from this amp was especially loud. It was loud enough that I feared it would damage my headphones if they were exposed to this many times throughout their lifetime. Though this amp has good driving power, its low quality components create irritating and unforgivable background noises. I had to return it.

Summary: hiss and interference 2006-03-24
Comment: This amplifier sounds good, except for the problem of background hiss and some sort of radio interference.

The hiss is persistent and audible with every headphone i've tried, and the radio interference is very bad- the noise changes pitch and loudness depending on the orientation of the amplifier.

Summary: Great for Headphone Lovers with Bose Systems! 2005-03-24
Comment: I was so irritated when I discovered my $1200 Bose 3-2-1 Series II system did not come with a headphone jack. Ordinarily, this wouldn't be such a biggie, but we had just purchased a $500 Sony DVD recorder/VHS combo (also, no headphone jack) to pair down our equipment. And guess what? Our DirecTV Tivo DVR doesn't have a headphone jack either! We were S.O.L.

Not a single component had a headphone jack. We could either re-hook one of our junkie DVD players through the system or we were out of luck until I found an article online about this Ramsey Headphone Amplifier.

THANK YOU RAMSEY! It's amazing to me that Bose makes and sells high end stereo systems WITHOUT headphone jacks when they make high end headphones?!@$?? WHAT??? That doesn't make ANY SENSE! Also, Bose informed me that if I plug my Bose headphones into any other branded component, it will lose sound quality. What choice do I have? You can't plug in headphones where there ain't no jack!

Anyway, this Ramsey unit will allow you to use audio cables to plug into your Bose and then you simply plug your headphones into the Ramsey unit. It is the only way to fly when you've got headphones, a Bose system, and no other components with a headphone jack.

We are back to enjoying our wireless headphones again thanks to Ramsey!
