Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sennheiser HD 449 Headphones Black (Electronics)
My main purchase for these was for speech audio, i.e. lectures, youtube, trainings, etc. I also listen to a great deal of audio so I was hoping for a set of headphones which had overall decent sound. I already have a set of HD595's but wanted a set of closed headphones too so I wasn't leaking sound to people near me. The overall build is decent for the money. Could use a little thicker wirer and the pads get a bit warm, but they do a good job of keeping the sound in and blocking outside noise. I broke these in for 4 hours or so before listening.
First thing I noticed is that the bass has much more presence then my HD595's. Any more bass and it would be too much. The highs seem very good and detailed, but the mids seem slightly recessed and not very rich. Could just be a personal preference. Lastly, the sound seems kinda of smaller and more focused, unlike my HD595's which seems to have a more expansive sound while still very well focused.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
First let me say I am a normal person who does not have a lot of expertise with headphones. But since I can't find earbuds comfortable enough to wear long term (Ive tried several), I have switched to big headphones.
My last phones were the Sennheiser HD 598's, a little bigger set than this one. Those actually sound just a tiny bit better than these HD 449's. I listened to several songs, and switched back and forth several times between these and my heavier duty phones. On some songs my heavier duty phones were noticeably clearer, but on some songs I really could not tell the difference. Even though the sound is not quite as good as my old set, I will probably still switch and use these smaller 449's and here's why:
The sound is almost as good as my more expensive headphones. It's well worth that tiny sacrifice. Both sets of headphones are comfortable, but these are smaller, lighter, and fit my small head even better than the older ones. I noticed one reviewer...Read more

Fair sound quality and cheap construction,

These headphones are not the worst that I have ever used, but they are not the best either. The most important factor is the audio and these headphones are only decent in this regard. They have a noticeable boost in the low end that is distracting, but the mid and high-end are pretty good. I compared them to my studio monitor headphones (MDR-7506) and found that the Sennheiser do not compare if you are interested in accurate sound reproduction, especially if used with a quality headphone amplifier. The bump in the low end makes them unusable for serious studio work, but they are fine for people who are not interested in flat audio reproduction and like the bass boost.
The construction of the headphones feels flimsy and rather cheap. They do not feel very solid, but I wouldn't imagine that they are actually going to break easily; they just feel weak.
The bottom line is that you can get much better headphones for less, including headphones that are recording...Read more
