I have both a S545 Walkman and a 4th gen iPod Nano. I have been using Sennheiser's PMX 60 earphones for awhile. I recently checked out Sennheiser's website and saw that they made a new behind the neck model, so I ordered them from Amazon.

You have to REALLY crank up the volume on either device to achieve a volume loud enough to drown out ambient noise. And by that, I mean MAX volume. So if you're on a cardio machine at a gym, max volume might not even cut it with these. The PMX 60's and two different behind the neck models from Sony are so much louder. If I used max volume with any of these I'd go deaf.

Even if having your iPod, Walkman, etc on maximum volume is ok with you, there's another problem. Others around you can easily hear what you're listening to. With my other earphones on loud, others around me can kind of tell that I'm listening to something but not as clearly as with these PMX 90's. These are also very thick, but I guess that's to be expected with...Read more

Hello- Thanks for your review. A quick note that these are not intended for the gym. Those seeking a neckband exercise headphone should really check out the PMX 680 which was designed with gym-goers in mind. The PMX 90 is indeed an open headphone as stated, so it will not eliminate noise competition. If you like the tunes a bit louder, some sound will leak out at the highest volumes. I suggest a strong look at PMX 680.

The Sennheiser PMX 90's, in a word, blew. Except for beat, they were bad at transferring the sound to where your ears could hear it. I discommend these headphones to the utmost.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Sound But Not Loud Enough, March 2, 2012

The sound quality is nice but the volume is not loud enough. I have used other brand headphones such as Klipsch and Ultimate Ears and this one sounds sweet and has good bass and clarity when used at higher volume compared to other headphones. However, the neckband is not tight enough to isolate noise in places like airplane and unfortunately it is not adjustable either. That's the reason I bought some other noise isolating in-ear headphones for my air travel. The cord is tangle resistant and this headphone looks nice. I like it when I listen to music in quiet places such as home. Based on my experience with this headphone, I bought Sennheiser HD-428 Over-The-Ear headphones with high expectations but it was very weak in bass so I had to look for other options.
