Summary: A great upgrade from the basic earbud 2008-11-14
Comment: I had tried a couple of the cheaper earbuds and though I wanted better sound quality, I was cautious about spending a lot of money on them because I had (and destroyed) some Etymotics a few years ago. They sounded great, but the wires were too delicate for commuting and hard use.
These Shures have wonderful sound, even though they're not the top of the Shure line. The quality I like the best in them is the depth of sound. They also do a great job of blocking external noise. My BART ride is nearly tolerable.
It takes a little while to get the knack of getting the buds settled in your ear. There are a wide range of sleeves, so that any ear size or shape should be covered.
I recommend them for anyone who's got only a little extra money to spend on headphones. These are a great value.

Summary: excellent sound quality 2008-11-02
Comment: I bought it because I didn't understand my iPod walking in the noisy streets and underground of Paris.
I wanted a good isolation and good sound.
Awesome.
I can hear every instrument and every voice of the song.
the isolation is very good, so I can keep a low volume and I have a very comfortable hearing.
When I walk in the street, I put the volume on 2 on my iPod and I have a good hearing of the sound and a good hearing and understanding of my environment. But most of the time when I am outside and for more safety, I put only one hearing, and I increase the volume.
And ... (not the least), I had a problem with it after one year : I send it back to Shure (2 years guarantee), and they provide a brand new without any question (I live in CA now). I stay only 10 days without it.
It really worths its price.

Comment: These sound simply fantastic right out of the box. I had a pair of e2c's and they were great. These are better. The black foam pads are fantastic compared to the old orange pads. It's very cool to feel them expand and hear ambient sounds fade out. Other reviewers have commented that you have to get them in deep for the full sound. It's absolutely true. Pull up on your ear, push the bud down in and - voila! - you've got great sound. Love 'em.

Summary: Good Quality / Poor Bass Resonse 2008-09-04
Comment: I recevied these yesterday after my last set of Shures saw a broken wire. It took about 20 minutes to figure out how you were supposed to wear these (At first, I thought they might be defective). After that, I could see that these buds produced very clear sound, but the bass response was off. I could play with the EQ and get it up to passable, but it just doesn't make sense to have to tweak a pair of $150 headphones.
I am returning today and ordering the next rung up the Shure chain (Whatever that may be).

Summary: You'll never go back to regular earphones 2008-08-06
Comment: I bought these a little over six months ago and have to admit that when I first started using them, the difference in sound actually had me a bit skeptical. But I paid a nice price for them and made sure that I had the right earbuds for my ear, and after a week, I could not have been happier. A couple of weeks later, I found myself without them and had other earphones (marketed as premium) that I was forced to use and could not believe the difference in sound quality. The richness I could only compare to going from a 13-inch SDTV to a 43-inch plasma. The difference really is that dramatic.
I did have a problem with them after about 3 months where sound only came out of one earbud, but I contacted Shure about the issue, they gave me very basic instructions on what I needed to do, and four days after the earphones left my hand, I had a brand new replacement pair sitting in my mailbox.
Summary - excellent earphones, excellent customer service!
