Product Review

The stylish MDR-ED12LP headphones look almost as great as they sound. With large, 16mm drivers that deliver crisp sound, you'll appreciate the audio quality no matter what kind of music you like. The bass booster pumps rich bass while the neodymium magnets offer powerful sound reproduction. The convenient cord slider reduces tangles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally...A great sounding, great fitting earbud for under $50, February 28, 2009

February 28, 2009: OK, this is the fourth pair of in-ear earphones I have had in the last three months: Koss sound isolation (returned; sounded tinny and crappy even after "break in"), Sony over the ear (didnt fit, kept falling out of ear), and the standard Apple iPod earbud that these replaced. These Sonys surprised me on two fronts: 1) the weird shaped earbud fits perfectly inside the ear, and stays in even when running (which I do a lot of); 2) they sound terrific, much better than the Apple buds that cost 4 x as much! I am a Brazilian/Latin DJ, so I listen to a lot of female vocals, guitar, trumpet, piano, and percussion, and trust me, I gave these buds a real workout. These buds are rated at 8 Hz - 22 kHz, and unlike other brands, with these you can actually hear the range. The 108 dB/mW sensitivity rating is pretty high, and again, you can hear it. Unlike the reviewer who complained about excessive bass, using the Flat, Jazz, Lounge, or Acoustic setting on my iPod the midrange...Read more

I personally have several pairs of headphones and earbuds ranging in several prices and brands. As far as I can tell, Koss makes the best headsets, even better than the Bose ones in my opinion, BUT these Sony earbuds must be the best earbuds I have ever owned.

1. They have excellent sound quality that I haven't really seen in many earbuds.

2. They stay where they are suppose to be, in the ear, but not really IN the ear like most earbuds, these earbuds slide into the outside of the ear and barely go into your canal, leaving little to discomfort.

3. They have bass built in, but not obnoxious bass, so you can enjoy music the way it was intended.

These cost me $15. They sound better than my $25 Philips and have better bass than my $100+ Shures. I had two concerns about buying these (or any other) earphones: Sound and fit. Would they sound better than a tin can? Would they stay in my ears during workouts? The bass is great. I even cranked up the sound and the bass held and didn't begin to sound tinny the way it would with most earbuds. I can't believe you get bass this good for $15. I also tried them out with classical music and the sound was as good as or better than any other earbuds I've had. These fit well in my ear. I tried shaking them out, but they stayed put. One thing I noticed is that if an earbud is not seated properly, the sound in that ear is diminished. When I repositioned it, the sound was better balanced with rich sounds in both ears.

Finally, I found that I needed to turn down the volume from where I was forced to set it with other buds. I turned up the sound with the Philips earbuds so I could hear...Read more
