TV Ears 10341 2.3 System Wireless Headset System (Blue), with 10 Ear Tips

These TV Ears work well enough, but from the name (TV Ears 2.3 mhz) I assumed they were RF and I was specifically trying to get away from infra red earphones. These do in fact work via infra red, and don't work without a clear line of sight between the transmitter and you. They do work amazingly well from reflected light. At first I thought they were working by radio transmission since I could turn my back to the TV and they worked fine. Then one day I went far enough around a corner so there was no reflected light from the transmitter getting to me and discovered what was really happening.
I'd probably be happy except that I was looking for something that would let me run around the kitchen which involves going in and out of clear sight to the TV.

Bought two of these for my parents who had trouble hearing the TV even when it was turned to painful volumes for me. When I gradually increased the volume on the headset, each of them smiled and said they could hear it well. It's pretty simple to set up: Plug in the box to an outlet. Connect to the TV with the audio cable to audio out. Turn on headset. Advantage of having two complete units instead of one complete and one headset is that the second one can be used as a charger closer to where the users sit. I think the professional model would only be necessary if you were dealing with big distances--this works great 20 feet from the TV.

I have moderate high freq hearing loss so it's hard to understand voices on TV. I got the 10341 2.3 TV Ears hoping that it would boost high freqs. Unfortunately, the Tone control doesn't do anything and the headset seems to be operating at the low freq boost end of the range. Voices sound even more muffled than with the TV's speakers. TV Ears' customer service says the lack of Tone control range is a known problem that they're working on. I haven't seen any mention of it online so maybe it's a new problem with just some models/manufacturing lots.
On the plus side, the headset does block background noise and we haven't heard any static or interference from our Samsung LCD TV. It's really nice for my wife or me to be able to listen to the TV without disturbing the other so we'll keep the TV Ears in spite of the disappointment over the Tone control.
