5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, and might be better choice than RH3's, April 22, 2008

I have these and the sound is excellent - great, undistorted bass and treble, giving a clear, well-imaged sound. I've been replaying a lot of albums and wondering why I ever used earbuds.

It's not clear from the picture, but these unfold into fairly standard-looking full-coverage earphones. The construction is almost all plastic in the hinges and swivels, so durability may be a problem.

These are more padded than the Yamaha RH3 Closed Ear Headphone with Cushion. They have padded headband and cup edges, but also a layer of foam across the inside of the cups, and may be more comfortable, although, like any full coverage model, a bit suffocating too.

I might pay more money for something more robust or more breathable, if it exists, but these seem to have the right acoustical guts.

These headphones have excellent sound, but as an earlier reviewer suggested, the plastic that the shells and frames are made from is fragile. I baby my gear, but both sides of the frame broke at the hinge within about 50 uses. Yamaha, I love your sound, but you've got to build these better!

This is an excellent set of headphones for the price. An amazing sound quality - you cannot get better than this. Awesome, awesome bass presence and crisp treble = YES! = the kind of sound that makes you want to get up and dance! and transports you into that heart thumping world of music. <smile> They are well padded around the ears and on the headband; they are light and adapt easily [with no strange tugging/tightness -- this is important as I wear glasses]. In addition, with the [screw off] adapter [for mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm from 6.3 mm (1/4") stereo], you can easily plug in your MP3 player/cell phone/etc. The eight-foot coiled cord is also lightweight and pliable. I've tried in-ear buds and other headphones/headsets with unpleasant results and read the reviews here and elsewhere re: Yamaha headphones ... but the decision to buy ultimately was determined by my history with Yamaha music products; I have a Yamaha Surround system [tall floor speakers, receiver, equalizer,...Read more
